Veteran Profile - Joseph Hietpas

Veteran Profile - Joseph Hietpas

Maryville, Mo. - Joseph Hietpas is disturbingly angry with nasty stuff on the mound.  That pretty much sums up the perfect starting pitcher for the B2R. Joe is my kind of guy. Joe went through the MIAA as a freshman and excelled on the mound because he had the mental make-up to handle such adversity. Joe and Anthony Caenepeel were the top two pitchers for the Bearcats in 2015.  Caenepeel was a Sophomore and Joe was a Freshman. Joe stands 6'2" and weighs 190 pounds.  The Sophomore comes from Fairfield, Iowa, and graduated from Fairfield High School.  Here is the write-up from Bearcatsports.com:

2015
Named to the MIAA Academic honor roll ... appeared in 13 games, starting 11 times on the mound ... went 57.1 innings on the year with a 4.87 ERA ... tallied 56 strikeouts while allowing just 27 walks ... picked up a win over Fort Hays State (March 21), going 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits ... got his second win over Emporia State (Apr. 11), pitching 5.2 innings with six strikeouts ... got a win over Missouri Western (Apr. 23), pitching 7.0 innings, allowing just two hits aond one run, striking out six ... had a season-high nine strikeouts against Northeastern State (Feb. 20).

Looking deeper into the 2015 statistics, Joe had a 4.87 ERA and went 3-5 on the year with 13 appearances and 11 starts, 1 complete game, 1 save, worked 57.1 innings, allowed 60 hits, 31 earned runs, 27 walks, 56 strike-outs, 2 wild pitches, and hit 2 batters.  Joe led the team in ERA and opposing batting average in 2015. Joe was second on the team on innings pitched, starts, and strike-outs.

B2R analysis - Joe's success is an absolute must if the Bearcats are going to accomplish their goals this season.  In a completely unscientific theory, the B2R hypothesizes he should stand between the bullpen and the field, call Joe a name, then open the gate to the field having sufficiently prodded the bear with a stick.  The MIAA baseball coaches have published their thoughts about Northwest through the pre-season poll.  Well, Joe will tell their opinion does not equal his reality.  This can be a very special year for the Bearcats baseball team because of its weekend starting rotation.  Joe's 2-1 strike-outs to walk ratio is 2nd only to Caenepeel...by 6 one-hundredths of a point...and he's a Freshman. I can't wait to see Joe with a year of experience and Joe Quinlin weight training.  Look for great things from Joseph Hietpas in 2016.

Poking the bear with a stick is successful.  See a clip from the movie Waterboy...

Go get'em Joe.

Go Cats!!
