Veteran Profile - Anthony Caenepeel

Veteran Profile - Anthony Caenepeel

Maryville, Mo. - Anthony burst onto the scene at Northwest Missouri State University after transferring to Maryville from North Central Missouri College.  The Willard, Missouri, native stands 6'00" tall and weighs 190 lbs.  Anthony will enter the 2016 NCAA as a Junior.  Anthony battled his way to becoming your Friday starter for Northwest.  A significant accomplishment for anyone, let alone a Sophomore.  Anthony's swagger matches his awesome hair and million dollar smile.  The B2R is a big fan of the 1-9.  Anthony is part of the "Fab 4" where 3 of the 4 weekend starting pitchers were first year players.  Heading into the 2015 season, Northwest lost its Ace, Ryker Fox, and #2 starter Austin Warren to graduation.  Anthony stepped-up to fill the void left by Fox to become the Friday starter.  Here is the write-up from Bearcatsports.com:

2015Named All-MIAA honorable mention ... earned MIAA Academic Honor Roll accolades ... started 11 games as Northwest's No. 1 starter ... pitched 66.2 innings ... was 4-3 on the year ... struck out 62 batters while walking just 29 ... worked 6.1 scoreless innings at Central Missouri (Mar. 7) with five strikeouts ... struck out 12 batters against Fort Hays State (Mar. 20) in a win ... also had wins against Cameron (Feb. 13), UNK (Mar. 13) and Pittsburg State (Mar. 27).

B2R thoughts - For a team that won 20 games in 2015, Anthony was credited for 4 of those wins with a 4-3 record.  Looking into the 2015 statistics, Anthony started 11 games (every appearance he made that season), earned a 5.40 ERA with 2 complete games, worked 66.2 innings, allowed 70 hits, 40 earned runs, 29 walks, 62 strike-outs, 6 wild pitches, 9 hit batsmen, and 1 balk.  In total, Anthony was 2nd on the team in ERA, starts, hit batters, and opposing batting average, first in win-loss percentage, wins, innings pitched, strike-outs, runners picked-off, and batters struck-out looking.

Northwest's 2016 season is going to go as far as the arms of Caenepeel, Hietpas, and Roberts will take the Cats. As the 2016 season nears, the other MIAA schools predicted to go higher can boast strong weekend starters and powerful line-ups.  Caenepeel is the equalizer.  Frankly a dark-horse candidate for MIAA Pitcher of the Year along with Joseph Hietpas.  The B2R looks forward to watching Anthony take the hill for the Bearcats in 2016.
