Opposition Research - Henderson State Reddies

Maryville, Mo. - Your Northwest Missouri State University baseball team travels to Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to play the Henderson State Reddies in a single 9-inning game on Thursday, February 11, 2016, with 1st pitch set at 6pm. Henderson State is coming off its best season ever in 2015 where the Reddies advanced to the NCAA D2 College World Series in Cary, North Carolina. The Reddies finished 2015 with a 33-21 record. Henderson State went 2-2 in the College World Series when it lost to Tampa by the score 5-2. The Henderson State calling card in 2015 was its defense having gone 37 innings without committing an error during the Regional and World Series play. Henderson State was ranked as high as 5th in the country in 2015 after early season victories over then No.1 St Cloud State and five wins over top 10 teams. In 2016, Henderson State has been ranked #16 in Collegiate Baseball Top 40. Henderson State is a member of the GAC (Great American Conference) and was pre-season #2 in 2016. I would hate to see who they ranked pre-season #1. Henderson State returns 5 starters from the 2015 team including Hunter Mayall who was MVP of the NCAA Regional (batted .706) and batted .548 in the post-season. Also returning is outfielder Tadarious Hawkins, All-GAC 2nd team pitcher Jordan Taylor, Hayden Lessenberry, 2nd baseman AJ Kruzel, and Honorable Mention All-GAC pitcher Chris Hunt.

So far in 2016, Henderson State is 2-4 on the year. Don't be fooled by the record, Henderson State has played College World Series caliber teams in Tartleton State, St. Mary's, and Central Missouri. Henderson Lost 2 of 3 to Tartleton State then participated in the Houston Winter Invitation Tournament in Houston, Texas, where the Reddies went 1-2.

The Reddies pitching, offense, and defense, will be a litmus test to see how the Bearcats stack-up against the Nation's best. Maryville, Mo. - While in Arkadelphia, your Northwest Missouri State Bearcats baseball team will play a 2-game series against Arkansas Tech. Game 1 will be on Friday, February 12, 2016, at 6pm, and Game 2 will be on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Noon. Arkansas Tech is 3-3 in 2016. ATU went 1-2 versus 2015 NCAA South Central Regional Title game participant St. Mary's University then went 2-1 versus Missouri Western State at Tech field. The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys finished in 4th place in the GAC Conference in 2015 with a record of 30-21, 16-10 GAC. In 2016, ATU returns 3 All-Conference players (pitcher Trent Armstrong, middle infielder Collin O'Neill, and Mark Vaughn.

B2R thoughts - ATU is another high quality opponent for Northwest Missouri State. The Bearcats will have to play their best baseball to win this series. ATU obviously can beat the MIAA's best with the series win over Missouri Western so this match-up is also an important NCAA Regional resume builder for the Bearcats. While ATU's starting rotation may have struggled early in 2016, the Wonder Boys bullpen is an outstanding group. After the February 13 game, Northwest returns home for the week.
