Caenepeel breaks 50-year-old strike-out record, new K King of Northwest

Pittsburgh, KS - Anthony Caenepeel is the new strike-out king of Northwest Missouri State University. Caenepeel struck out 14 Gorillas and broke a 50-year-old record. According to Northwestbearcats.com, Caenepeel broke Scott Kurtz's career strike-out record of 223. Kurtz pitched for Northwest between 1966 and 1969. Caenepeel has 225 strike-outs after today's exemplary performance. Did I forget? The Bearcats beat Pitt State in Game 1 by the score 7-0 thanks to Caenepeel's complete game shut-out victory. With the victory, Northwest is 18-10, 7-8 MIAA.

Offensively, Kolby Greenslade was Northwest's most valuable player. In total, Kolby went 2 for 4 (including a home run) with 4 RBIs and 1 run scored in the game. Garrett Fort went 3 for 5 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored on the day. Kevin Handzlik went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored in the game. Logan Rycraft went 2 for 4 (including a double) with 2 runs scored on the day. Ozzie Adams went 1 for 4 with 1 walk in the game. Landon Figg earned a hit on the day. In total, Northwest scored 7 runs off of 13 hits, 6 RBIs, 4 walk, 8 strike-outs, and left 5 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest did not commit an error in the game.

Pitching, Anthony Caenepeel can now spell his name Anthony Kaenepeel as he is the Northwest career strike-out leader in school history. Of all the Northwest baseball greats, including major leaguers, Anthony Kaenepeel is king of them all in this category. Northwest has fielded a varsity baseball team for 62 seasons. Kaenepeel has struck out more batters than 62 years worth of Bearcat pitchers. An attaboy to the 6' Senior from Willard, Missouri, Anthony Kaenepeel on a milestone achievement.

In Game 1, Anthony had a career day against Pittsburgh State. Northwest won 7-0 and Kaenepeel worked a complete game shut-out victory. Kaenepeel's record now stands at 5-4 on the year. In total, Kaenepeel worked 9.0 innings, allowed a mere 5 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, 14 strike-outs and 1 wild pitch in the win.

This is worth repeating - KKKKKKKKKKKKKKaenepeel struck-out 14 Pitt State Gorillas. Can we all chip in some money to legally change the spelling of his name to KKKKKKKKKKKKKKaenepeel?

Happy 43rd birthday Matt Mason

Maryville, Mo. - Happy 43rd birthday, Matt.

Matt Mason played with your Northwest Missouri State Bearcat baseball team while he earned his degree. Following college, Matt served our country by joining the Navy SEALS. He was killed in action approximately 6 years ago, along with 29 other Navy SEALS, when the helicopter they were riding in was shot down in Afganistan. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack according to reports.

Your Northwest Missouri State Bearcat baseball team wears camouflage jerseys in honor of Matt's and all servicewomen and servicemen sacrifices to protect our country and the liberties we enjoy. We live in the greatest country in the world because the greatest people of the world are willing to protect it.

As told to the B2R by his Bearcat teammates, Matt was a hard working blue collar guy that earned everything he received. A great teammate. Later, a great family man to his wife and children. A great hero.

The B2R has a permanent tribute to Matt on the top right half of this site. As long as the B2R is on-line, we will all remember this great Bearcat.

One day there will be a proper tribute at Bearcat baseball field to the kind of person we want all Bearcats to become upon successfully completing their degrees at Northwest Missouri State, people like Matt Mason.

This week in Bearcat baseball - Cats win 4 straight with walk-off, run-rule, pitching, and defense

Maryville, Mo. - In this week of Bearcat baseball, your Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat baseball team won four straight against William Jewell, Rockhurst, and Nebraska-Kearney. During the four-game streak, Northwest had an extra-innings walk-off, a run-rule, a whole lot of pitching and terrific defense to see their 2017 record move to 15-8, 4-6 MIAA.

Snapshot of your Bearcats - As a team, Northwest is batting .278 with .402 slugging percentage, a .376 slugging percentage, 12 home runs, 11 stolen bases in 18 attempts, .969 fielding percentage, and a 3.08 ERA.

Bearcat highlights this week -

James Holler went 9 for 17 with 2 RBIs, 5 runs scored, with 4 doubles, and 1 home run. James is now leading Northwest with his .348 batting average and .565 slugging percentage. The speedster from St. Robert, Missouri, has 1 stolen base in 1 attempt this season raising his career total to 6. Attaboy "wheels." James is crushing baseballs and getting on base with a .406 on-base percentage. James has been a hard worker and developed himself into a legitimate 4-hole power hitter for your Northwest Bearcat baseball team in the B2R's opinion. His statistics have improved every season in his Bearcat career and that is a tribute to his hard work and determination. An attaboy to James Holler, the pride of Waynesville High School, for an exemplary week of baseball

Ozzie Adams went 6 for 16 with 5 RBIs, 2 runs scored, 1 home run, and 3 walks this week. Ozzie is now the second leading batter on Northwest's roster with a .326 average and 2nd on the team with a .484 slugging % so far this season. Ozzie Adams is a 5'9" spark plug with a 10' tall heart. Ozzie has managed to get himself on base in 21 of Northwest's 23 games. In 1 of those 2 games he did not get on base, he still earned a RBI. Ozzie is simply the textbook definition of consistent offensive threat while playing a premium defensive position in second base. An attaboy to Ozzie Adams for an exemplary week of baseball.

Garrett Fort went 5 for 14 with 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored, 1 double, 1 home run, 3 walks, and 1 sacrifice this week. Garrett is now batting .295 with 21 runs scored, 7 doubles, 2 home runs, 11 RBIs, .432 slugging percentage, 12 walks, 4 times hit by a pitch, .396 on-base percentage, 3 sacrifices, and 2 stolen bases. Garrett is just a tough out for opposing pitchers with his ability to foul off good pitches and punish mistakes. The senior from Ankeny, Iowa, already matched last year's home run total and has speed to burn in center field. Garrett had big shoes to fill after Ryan Abernathy's graduation and stepped in and succeeded with that opportunity. An attaboy to Garrett Fort for an exemplary week of baseball.

Logan Rycraft went 4 for 11 with 4 RBIs, 2 runs scored, 2 walks and 2 sacrifices this week. Logan is now batting .284, slugging .343, with a .437 on-base percentage, 3 stolen bases, and 16 walks to only 9 strike-outs. Logan has locked down the short stop position and his batting average continues to climb. Logan has not committed an error in over 2 weeks. Ladies and gentlemen, he is a sophomore, too. An attaboy to Logan Rycraft on an exemplary week of baseball.

Jay Hrdlicka went 3 for 9 with 3 RBIs, 4 runs scored, 1 triple, 7 walks, 1 stolen base, and 1 hit by pitch. Jay is batting .254 but has a .436 on-base percentage, a .441 slugging percentage, 2 stolen bases in 2 attempts, 1 double, 2 triples, and 2 home runs. Jay had 14 walks and was hit by a pitch 5 times this season. Jay has safely reached base in 17 of the 20 games he has played in this season. Jay is a hard working and team first ballplayer. Edgy on the field and laid back off it. Great teammate. A B2R favorite. An attaboy to Jay Hrdlicka on an exemplary week of baseball.

Eddy Kraber may have had the best week of all Bearcats. A notable achievement considering this week of tremendous team success. Kraber made 2 starts, worked 12.0 innings, allowed 12 hits, 4 runs, 3 walks, 7 strike-outs, and earned his first win as a Bearcat. So far this season, Kraber is 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA, 26.2 innings pitched, 6 walks and 15 strike-outs.

Jacob Wagner had 3 appearances this week and worked 2.2 innings, allowed 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 1 strike-out, and lowered his ERA to a team leading 1.08. Jacob is the "Pull in Case of an Emergency" fire extinguisher for your Bearcat baseball team coming into games in extremely high leverage situations to get the Cats out of jams without allowing a run. An attaboy to Jacob Wagner for an exemplary week of baseball.

Anthony Caenepeel made 1 start and earned the victory this week. In total, Anthony worked 5.1 innings, allowed 5 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and 5 strike-outs. Caenepeel's record now stands at 4-3 on the year. Of the starters, Caenepeel has the best ERA at 2.87 with 53 strike-outs and 14 walks. Caenepeel's work ethic and drive to win is second to none. The B2R is glad he is a Bearcat. An attaboy to Anthony Caenepeel on an exemplary week of baseball.

Joseph Hietpas made 1 start this week and worked 5.0 innings, allowed 3 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, and 7 strike-outs, in only 71 pitches. On the season, Joseph has a 2.88 ERA, 2-1 record, 2 complete games, 17 walks, 44 strike-outs, and opponents are batting a mere .184. It seems to the B2R that Hietpas would rather rip off the batter's arms and beat him with them instead of allowing a base runner. Love the fire. Love the passion. Love the fighter pilot mentality on the mound. An attaboy to Joseph Hietpas for an exemplary week of baseball.

Nikko Pablo made 3 appearances this week and worked 3.0 innings, allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, and 5 strike-outs. On the season, Nikko's ERA now stands at 2.89. Nikko's record is 2-1 with 4 saves, 4 walks, and 15 strike-outs. Nikko's work ethic is legendary. Kid puts every ounce of effort in his 5'7" 145 lbs frame. Captain America courage on the mound and off the field. An attaboy to Nikko Pablo on an exemplary week of baseball.

Austin Battaglia made 3 appearances this week. Battaglia worked 3.0 innings, allowed 3 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks and 4 strike-outs. On the season, Battaglia has a 2.89 ERA, 2-0 record, 11 strike-outs and only 5 walks. Austin is having a terrific 2017 season. He is the greatest kid you will ever meet. He is a hard worker and a great teammate. An attaboy to Austin Battaglia for having an exemplary week of baseball.

Cole Otto made 1 appearance this week and worked 1.0 inning against Rockhurst. Cole allowed 0 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 1 strike-out.

Next for your Bearcats - Northwest's 3-game series against UCM was moved back a day to better match-up with the forecasted weather. Game 1 is Saturday, March 25th at 2pm. Game 2 is Sunday, March 26th at 2pm. Game 3 is Monday, March 27th at 2pm. UCM is presently in 2nd place with the MIAA and approximately 1 GB from 1st place Emporia State.

According to statistics with the MIAA Conference website, here are the UCM's and Northwest's rankings:

Batting - UCM ranked 4th and Northwest ranked 10th
Fielding - Northwest ranked 2nd and UCM ranked 10th
Pitching - UCM ranked 1st and Northwest ranked 2nd (ERA rank. UCM allowed more runs than NW in the same number of games)

So there you have it. An epic match-up with play-off implication for both teams. Expect a tremendous weekend of baseball.

Kraber, Holler, Fort, and Bearcat D all shine in victory over UNK

Maryville, Mo. - Eddy Kraber's gem, Northwest's defense, plus Garrett Fort's and James Holler's exemplary offensive production carried the Bearcats to a 11-1 win over the University of Nebraska-Kearney in Maryville on Tuesday, March 21, 2017. Eddy demonstrated the poise of an upper classman after UNK managed to load the bases with the first 3 batters of the game. With 0 outs, Eddy induced a double play with the next batter and UNK scored 1 run on the play. With 2 outs and a runner on 3rd, the next UNK Loper lined-out to the short stop. The double play may have very well changed the entire course of the game. After the 1st inning, Kraber would not allow another run. Kraber picked-up his first win as a Bearcat for his effort. Eddy's 2017 record now stands at 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA.

Kraber's quality, Bullpen's excellence, & walk-off magic propel Bearcats over Jewell 4-3

Kraber allowed 2 runs in the 1st but made adjustments and settled down to pitch scoreless innings in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Kraber allowed 1 run in the 5th but no runs in the 6th inning. Enter stage right the terrific trio of Waggs, Tags, and Pablo, to pitch 3.0 innings of scoreless relief. Then, wake-up the Bearcat offense in the bottom of the 9th to score 3 runs with a thrilling plate appearance by Landon Figg. Figg was down 1-2 with the bases loaded, took the ball up the middle to score the winning runs on 2nd and 3rd resulting in a pack of Bearcats sprinting to 2nd base with gatorade bottles and a group hug. Attaboys.

This Week in Bearcat Baseball - Mother Nature & Ichabod starting pitching too much for Bearcats but bright spots remain

Maryville, MO - In this week in Bearcat baseball, mother nature & Ichabod starting pitching prove too much for your Bearcat baseball team. Washburn won the series 2-1 after the series moved to Topeka with a weather forecast expecting cold and snowy conditions. The move was a good call as Northwest's softball team stayed in Maryville only to have to cancel the games due to weather conditions. Northwest won its true home game 5-1 thanks to Joseph Hietpas' exemplary MIAA Pitcher of the Week caliber performance. Both teams would then travel to Topeka to play a double-header on Friday where Washburn would sweep winning 6-2 & 8-2 respectively. Following the Washburn series, Northwest's 2017 record is 11-8, 3-6 MIAA.

The B2R will highlight what's going right with the Bearcat baseball team and who had a terrific week on the baseball field. First, let's look at a snapshot of the Bearcat baseball team at this point in the season.

Bearcat baseball snapshot - As a team, Northwest is batting .275, with a .372 on-base, and .388 slugging percentage, averaging 5.95 runs per game, 1.26 errors per game, .965 fielding percentage, .95 unearned runs per game, 3.38 ERA for the Bearcat pitching staff, 5 complete games, 150 strike-outs, and only 69 walks.

Logan Rycraft has made a quick adjustment to MIAA caliber baseball and raised his batting average over 130 points since the conclusion of the Northeastern State University Series. Following Northeastern State, Logan, a slick fielding short stop in his first year at Northwest Missouri State University, was batting .132 and built that up from a low of .095. Something clicked during practice that followed the series and Logan has been on a tear since. The next series was against Lindenwood and Logan went 5 for 9 (.556 average). This week, Logan went 5 for 9 (.556 average) against Washburn and raised his season average to .268. During the Washburn series, Logan scored 2 runs, 1 RBI, 1 double, 1 triple, 2 walks, 1 stolen base, 0 strike-outs, 0 errors. In short, Logan's offense is going up and his fielding errors are going down. A B2R attaboy to Logan Rycraft for a terrific week against Washburn and his continued ascension on the baseball field.

Joseph Hietpas put in a MIAA Pitcher of the Week caliber performance in Game 1 versus Washburn with a complete 9.0 inning victory. Hietpas threw 106 pitches and worked 9.0 innings, allowed a mere 2 hits, a mere 1 walk, a mere 1 run, 8 strike-outs, and hit 1 batter. Joe lowered his ERA 77 points and now sits at 3.28. A B2R attaboy to Joseph Hietpas on his exemplary performance against Washburn this week.

Landon Figg is continuing his hot offensive performance as the Bearcats most consistent threat. In the Washburn series, Landon went 4 for 12 with a double, 0 walks, 2 strike-outs, and 0 errors while playing third base. So far in 2017, Landon is leading the team with a .324 batting average, scoring 14 runs, 24 hits, 8 doubles, 13 RBIs, .432 slugging percentage, 8 walks, 1 hit by pitch, and 11 strike-outs. Landon has played terrific defense following the Northeastern State series. A B2R attaboy to Landon Figg for his terrific play this season and this week against Washburn.

Ozzie Adams had a terrific week of baseball against Washburn and is effectively putting together his best season as a Bearcat. In the Washburn series, Ozzie went 3-10, 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs, 1 double, 2 walks, 1 sacrifice fly, 1 strike-out, and committed only 1 error. Ozzie's batting average has been on the rise for the past month and currently sits at .316, .468 slugging, and .398 on-base percentage. A B2R attaboy to Ozzie Adams for a terrific week of baseball for your Northwest Bearcats.

Quintin VanAckeren is putting together quite a freshman year at Northwest Missouri State University. VanAckeren had a terrific week of baseball against Washburn. He came into the game out of the bullpen and effectively pitched 2.0 innings, allowed only 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, 3 strike-outs, and hit 1 batter to see his season ERA fall to 1.42. Quintin is a Freshman from Omaha, Nebraska, and a graduate of Papillion LaVista South High School. A B2R attaboy to Quintin VanAckeren on a terrific week of baseball.

Jacob Wagner has become the Bearcats right-handed fire extinguisher in 2017. Perhaps a better example of Jacob's role for Northwest this season is he is the "PULL IN CASE OF EMERGENCY" fire alarm that Coach Loe can call upon whenever the Cats are in trouble. The 6'2" righty comes in when called upon, puts out the fire in less than 1.0 inning and keeps the Cats in the game. Jacob puts out the fire. Jacob is the fire alarm that you pull in case of an emergency. Jacob had a terrific week of baseball for Northwest Missouri State. Against Washburn, Wagner made two appearances (0.1 of an inning in 1 appearance and 0.2 of an inning in the other appearance), allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, 0 strike-outs, and lowered his ERA to 1.59. A B2R attaboy to Jacob Wagner on a terrific week of baseball.

Nikko Pablo had a terrific week of baseball against Washburn. Nikko worked 2.0 innings, allowed 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 0 strike-outs, hit 1 batter, and lowered his ERA to 3.45. Nikko is the probably the one player on Northwest's roster that can play all 9 fielding positions. While he stands 5'7", his heart is 100 feet tall. The Senior from Stockton, California, graduated from Ronald E McNair High School and a B2R favorite. A B2R attaboy to Nikko Pablo for a terrific week of baseball.

Next for NWMSU baseball - Your Bearcat baseball team will play non-conference opponents this week with a mid-week clash against William Jewell College on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, in Maryville, at 2pm. Northwest will then travel to Kansas City to play Rockhurst University on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at 3pm. Rockhurst and Northwest will then both drive to Maryville for a 2nd game on Sunday, March 19, 2017, at 1pm.

Washburn sweeps double-header, takes series 2-1

Topeka, KS - Your Bearcat baseball team may have been the home team on the scoreboard but Northwest did not find Topeka to be the friendly confines of Bearcat baseball field as the Ichabods swept Friday's double-header to win the series 2-1. Washburn won game 3 by the score 8-2. Game 3 was also the first time the Bearcat bullpen had a tough day by allowing 5 runs in a single inning in the 7th to put the game out of reach. What didn't help the bullpen was the fact that the Bearcat offense did not score a run until the 8th inning when the game was already 8-0. With the loss, Northwest falls to 11-8, 3-6 MIAA in 2017. A B2R shout-out to the Bearcat defense keeping its focus through out the game. In the 6th and 7th inning, the Bearcat bullpen gave up 4 walks, 3 hits, 1 wild pitch, 1 double, 1 home run, & 5 earned runs. Despite the Bullpen's tough day, Washburn's starting pitching was absolutely terrific and held a solid Bearcat offense in check for the second consecutive game.

Offensively, Landon Figg was the Bearcat most valuable player in Game 3. In total, Landon went 2 for 4 in the game. Garrett Fort went 1 for 5 (a double) on the day. Austin did not record an out in his outing and allowed 2 runs (both earned), 0 hits, 2 walks, 0 strike-outs, and 1 wild pitch in the game. Jimmy McElwain came into the game in the 7th to relieve Battaglia. In total, Jimmy worked 1.0 inning, allowed 1 run, 3 hits, 0 walks and 1 strikeout in the game. Washburn evens series, wins 6-2

Topeka, KS - The Ichabods used timely hitting and terrific pitching to beat your Bearcat baseball team 6-2 to win game 2 and even the series 1-1. Some positive notes, Logan Rycraft has found his groove at the plate and he is the Bearcats' hottest bat right now. Second, Anthony worked deep into the game and gave the team a chance to win. Third, the Bearcat bullpen had an exemplary day with 2.1 innings pitched, 0 runs, 1 hit, 0 walks, and 3 strike-outs. Learning points include (1) the Bearcat defense committing 2 errors and (2) an offense that could not muster the key hit when runners were on base. Game 1 was moved to Thursday due to weather forecast in the Maryville area. In a starting pitcher battle, Hietpas out-played Washburn's starter. Once Washburn's starter ended his day, your Bearcat baseball team tacked on runs against the Ichabod's bullpen to win the game. Bearcats win Lindenwood series, on to Washburn

Maryville, Mo. - As promised the Northwest/Lindenwood series in Maryville proved to be an epic clash between proud and talented baseball clubs this past weekend. Northwest won the series 2-1 thanks to Brad Roberts' exemplary performance in Game 3 on Sunday. Northwest won the series against a Lindenwood squad that swept its first MIAA Conference series the previous weekend. Northwest's offense had a terrific weekend scoring 23 total runs in the series (7.67 runs/game average). There were also teaching moments that the Cats can take with them following the series. Every game flows from the defense. Northwest had tough days defensively in Games 1 and 2. While the Cats won Game 1 (a tense finish), they lost Game 2 despite an incredible rally. Game 3 is the case study how defense feeds into pitching which feeds into batting. 0 errors, 0 runs allowed, 10 runs scored. The Bearcat way of pitching and defense will be this club's calling card if they want to continue to win. The pitching is there and will keep Northwest in every game regardless of the quality of opposing offenses. Brad Roberts had his best performance in 2017 on Sunday in Game 3 with a complete game shut-out victory. The 3 horsemen, Hietpas, Caenepeel, and Roberts, are going to give the Cats the match-up to win every remaining series this season. The difference is going to be how well the defense plays.

After crunching the box scores from the Lindenwood series, a few thoughts from the B2R:

1) It looks like Coach Loe is settling in on his line-up and the Bearcats have a deep bench with guys that can hit for power and/or speed to burn;

2) Bearcat defense holds the cards for the team this season - A defense that fields .970+ will have the 'Cats in a dog pile at the NCAA regional tournament championship. Currently, Northwest is fielding .968;

3) Good to see exemplary play be rewarded with additional playing time - Jimmy McElwain has had a terrific start to the 2017 NCAA season as previously chronicled by the B2R. So far, he has been given 1.0 innings in most cases. In the Lindenwood series, Jimmy got the opportunity to pitch 2.0 innings and did a good job. Hard work pays off and Coach Loe rewards hard work. Love to see that.

Game 2 - Lindenwood beat Northwest 7-5 in a game with two stories. Early in the game, defensive miscues and lack of offense reared its ugly head for your Bearcats for the second consecutive game. The Bearcats were down 6-0 going into the bottom of the 7th inning having allowed 3 unearned runs and a total of 3 errors. Later in the game, everything changed in the bottom of the seventh. The Bearcats would rally and score 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th and 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th to close the game to 6-5. Lindenwood would score 1 run in the 9th to make the score 7-5 and Northwest could not score any more runs to finish with the loss.

Offensively, Logan Rycraft was Northwest's MVP for the second consecutive game. In total, Logan went 2 for 4 (including a double) with 1 RBI and 1 run scored in the game. Kevin Handzlik went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored on the day. James Holler went 2 for 4 (including a double) with 1 run scored in the game. Garrett Fort went 2 for 5 (including a double) with 1 RBI and 1 run scored on the day. Jay Hrdlicka went 1 for 3. Alix Herrera went 1 for 4 (a double) with 2 RBIs. In total, Northwest scored 5 runs off of 10 hits, 4 RBIs, 0 walks, 6 strike-outs, and left 7 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest committed 3 errors that led to 3 unearned runs.

Pitching, Anthony Caenepeel earned the start but picked up the loss to see his 2017 record fall to 3-2. In total, Anthony worked 6.2 innings, allowed 10 hits, 6 runs (only 3 earned), 1 walk, and 6 strike-outs. In the 7th inning, Jacob Wagner came into the game and worked 0.1 of an inning, allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 walk, and 0 strike-outs. Northwest has stolen 5 bases in 8 attempts with Garrett Fort leading the team with 2 bags so far in 2017. Defensively, Northwest is fielding at a .968 percentage with 15 errors in 13 games (1.15 errors per game). Northwest's strength is its pitching with a 3.19 team ERA. With 115.2 innings pitched for Northwest this season, Northwest has 104 strike-outs (nearly 1 strike-out per inning). Northwest allowed only 49 walks and opponents are batting a mere .230. The fact of the matter is Northwest's starting pitching has been terrific and the bullpen has been exemplary. Once Northwest's bats heat up, the Bearcats are going to give nightmares to opposing coaches and pitching staffs.

Anthony Caenepeel is continuing his MIAA Pitcher of the Year-level performance this season. Anthony has a 3-1 record with a ridiculous 1.91 ERA in four starts this season. Caenepeel already has 2 complete games this season. A hearty B2R "attaboy" to Eddy on an exemplary start to the 2017 season.

Unique statistical analysis -

Jay Hrdlicka, the pride of Des Moines, Iowa, is #2 on the team with a .514 slugging percentage, he is tied with the team lead in home runs, #2 on the team with a .426 on-base percentage, #4 on the team with RBIs, the only Bearcat with a triple, #3 on the team in walks, #3 on the team in hit by a pitch, #1 on the team in sacrifice bunts, #2 in stolen bases, and #1 in stolen base percentage. So what this tells the B2R is that Jay usually finds his way on base either by hitting the ball hard or walking. When he's on base, he is ornery and a distraction to the opposing pitcher. In other words, my kind of baseball player.

Next - Your Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat baseball team plays their home opener this weekend against Lindenwood University in a key MIAA match-up. The Bearcats will play a 3-game series this weekend against the Lions with a single 9-inning game each day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. First pitch on Friday is set for 2pm. First pitch on Saturday is set for 2pm. First pitch on Sunday is set for 1pm.

The weather forecast looks great. According to the B2R's weather app on his trusty smartphone device, the projected high on Friday is set for 54 degrees. The projected high on Saturday is even better at 68 degrees. Sunday, all Bearcats attending the Bearcat baseball game receive free sunburns with a projected high of 67 degrees. Mmm mmm. Looks like an early case of spring fever is about to break out in the beautiful City of Maryville. Make sure to head on down to the ballpark to watch your Bearcats this weekend. The last time Northwest and Lindenwood collided, there was plenty of offense as both teams hit the ball all over the field.
