This week in Bearcat Baseball - Oz-man on Fire & 'Cats split last 4


Maryville, Mo. - In this week of Bearcat baseball, your Northwest Missouri State Bearcat baseball team went 2-2 after losing the Central Missouri series but winning the mid-week game against Nebraska-Kearney. We saw that we are living in the land of OZ-zie Adams and he has a bucket full of water for the wicked witch of MIAA pitching. 'Cue the 5th-grade level picture altering ha-ha joke image:


Oz has a fever and the only prescription is MIAA pitching:


Ozzie Adams went 5 for 12 against Central Missouri with 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs, 1 double, 2 walks, and no errors while playing second base. Central Missouri was the #1 ranked pitching staff in the MIAA coming into this series. Oz has played in all 27 games for Northwest. He has reached base safely in all but 2 games. In 1 of those 2 games, he still earned a RBI. Oz is now leading the team in batting average. A B2R shout-out to Senior Ozzie Adams from Clear Lake, Iowa.





Snapshot of Northwest - Northwest is 17-10, 6-8 MIAA. The Bearcats are 7-5 in Maryville, 9-4 on the road, and 1-1 at neutral sites. Offensively, Northwest is hitting .277, slugging .403, on-base .374, and scoring an average of 6 runs per game. Defensively, Northwest is fielding .970. Pitching, Northwest's team ERA is 3.26 and opponents are batting a mere .227 against them. Northwest is ranked 10th in offense in the MIAA, 1st in pitching in the MIAA, and 3rd in defense in the MIAA.

Luke Hassman went 7 for 16 with 5 RBIs, 4 runs scored, 2 doubles, 2 home runs and 1 walk against Central Missouri and Nebraska-Kearney this week. On the season, Luke is batting .300, slugging .511, on-base .366, with a team leading 5 home runs. A B2R attaboy to Luke Hass-elhoff-man on an exemplary week of baseball.


Jay Hrdlicka went 6 for 14 with 6 RBIs, 4 runs scored, 1 double, 1 home run, 3 walks and 1 stolen base this week. Jay raised his batting average 50 points thanks to such a terrific weekend. On the season, Jay is hitting .288, slugging .493, and a team leading on-base percentage of .453. Jay has not committed an error or allowed a past ball this season while playing catcher for your Bearcats. Jay is a Sophomore from from West Des Moines, Iowa. Jacob Wagner made 3 relief appearances against Central Missouri and Nebraska-Kearney this week and pitched 1.2 innings without allowing a run, only 1 hit, 1 walk, and 1 strike-out. On the season, Wagner's ERA is 0.90. A B2R attaboy to Jacob for a terrific week of baseball.







Austin Battaglia made 2 relief appearances against Central Missouri and Nebraska-Kearney and worked 3.0 innings without allowing a run or a hit. Austin had 1 walk and 1 strike-out in the 2 appearances. On the season, Austin's ERA is 2.19 with a 2-0 record. A B2R attaboy to Austin Battaglia on a terrific week of baseball.






Joseph Hietpas made 1 start and earned 1 win in his appearance against Central Missouri. Hietpas worked 6.2 innings and allowed 2 runs with 10 strike-outs and 1 walk in an exemplary performance. On the season, Hietpas has a 2.85 ERA with a 3-1 record, 54 strike-outs and only 18 walks. A B2R attaboy to Joseph Hietpas on an exemplary week of baseball.






Anthony Caenepeel made 1 start against Central Missouri this week and had a terrific outing. In total, Caenepeel worked 8.0 innings and allowed 3 runs, 1 walk and 5 strike-outs. On the season, Caenepeel's ERA is now 2.95 with a 4-4 record with 58 strike-outs and only 15 walks. A B2R attaboy to Caenepeel on a terrific week of baseball.







Eddy Kraber made 1 start and earned a victory this week against Nebraska-Kearney. In his start, Eddy worked 5.2 innings and allowed 2 runs with 2 walks and a strike-out. On the season, Kraber's ERA is 3.34 with a 2-0 record with 8 walks and 16 strike-outs. A B2R attaboy to Kraber on a terrific week of baseball.






Next - Your Northwest Bearcats baseball team travels to Pittsburgh, Kansas, to play the Pitt State Gorillas in a 3-game series. Game 1 is Friday, March 31, 2017, at 6pm. Game 2 is Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 1pm. Game 3 is Sunday, April 2, 2017, at 1pm.
