Caenepeel breaks 50-year-old strike-out record, new K King of Northwest

Pittsburgh, KS - Anthony Caenepeel is the new strike-out king of Northwest Missouri State University. Caenepeel struck out 14 Gorillas and broke a 50-year-old record. According to Northwestbearcats.com, Caenepeel broke Scott Kurtz's career strike-out record of 223. Kurtz pitched for Northwest between 1966 and 1969. Caenepeel has 225 strike-outs after today's exemplary performance. Did I forget? The Bearcats beat Pitt State in Game 1 by the score 7-0 thanks to Caenepeel's complete game shut-out victory. With the victory, Northwest is 18-10, 7-8 MIAA.

Offensively, Kolby Greenslade was Northwest's most valuable player. In total, Kolby went 2 for 4 (including a home run) with 4 RBIs and 1 run scored in the game. Garrett Fort went 3 for 5 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored on the day. Kevin Handzlik went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored in the game. Logan Rycraft went 2 for 4 (including a double) with 2 runs scored on the day. Ozzie Adams went 1 for 4 with 1 walk in the game. Landon Figg earned a hit on the day. James Holler earned a hit and a RBI in the game. Jay Hrdlicka went 1 for 3 (a double) with 1 walk and 1 run scored on the day. Luke Hassman earned 2 walks and stole a base in the game. In total, Northwest scored 7 runs off of 13 hits, 6 RBIs, 4 walk, 8 strike-outs, and left 5 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest did not commit an error in the game.

Pitching, Anthony Caenepeel can now spell his name Anthony Kaenepeel as he is the Northwest career strike-out leader in school history. Of all the Northwest baseball greats, including major leaguers, Anthony Kaenepeel is king of them all in this category. Northwest has fielded a varsity baseball team for 62 seasons. Kaenepeel has struck out more batters than 62 years worth of Bearcat pitchers. An attaboy to the 6' Senior from Willard, Missouri, Anthony Kaenepeel on a milestone achievement.

In Game 1, Anthony had a career day against Pittsburgh State. Northwest won 7-0 and Kaenepeel worked a complete game shut-out victory. Kaenepeel's record now stands at 5-4 on the year. In total, Kaenepeel worked 9.0 innings, allowed a mere 5 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, 14 strike-outs and 1 wild pitch in the win.

This is worth repeating - KKKKKKKKKKKKKKaenepeel struck-out 14 Pitt State Gorillas. Can we all chip in some money to legally change the spelling of his name to KKKKKKKKKKKKKKaenepeel?
