Bearcats lose UCM series but finish 2-2 with mid-week win over UNK

Maryville, Mo. - Your Northwest Missouri State Bearcat baseball team lost the University of Central Missouri series 2 games to 1 but beat the University of Nebraska-Kearney in the mid-week match-up to finish with a 2-2 result. Following the 4 games, Northwest's record is now 15-8, 5-6 MIAA.

UCM Game 1 - The Mules beat Northwest 4-1 thanks to 3 home runs allowed by Bearcat pitching to drop game 1 of the series. Northwest could not muster much offense against UCM's terrific pitching. 

Offensively, Ozzie Adams was Northwest's most valuable player. In total, Ozzie went 1 for 3 (a double) with 1 RBI and 1 walk. Luke Hassman earned a hit in the game. Garrett Fort earned 2 walks and scored 1 run on the day. James Holler earned a walk in the game. Kolby Greenslade earned 1 hit on the day. In total, Northwest scored 1 run off of 3 hits, 1 RBI, 4 walks, 14 strike-outs, and left 8 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest committed 1 error in the game.

Pitching, Anthony Caenepeel earned the start in the game and did a good job of keeping Northwest in the game. In total, Caenepeel worked 8.0 innings, allowed 7 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk and 5 strike-outs in the game. Despite a valiant performance, Caenepeel picked-up the loss and saw his 2017 record fall to 4-4. In the 9th inning, Nikko Pablo came into the game and worked 1.0 inning, allowed 2 hits, 1 run, 0 walks and 2 strike-outs in the game. 

UCM Game 2 - The Bearcats beat UCM 7-2 to even the series 1-1. 

Offensively, Jay Hrdlicka was Northwest's most valuable player in the game. In total, Hrdlicka went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and 1 walk on the day. Ozzie Adams went 3 for 5 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored in the game. Luke Hassman went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 1 run scored on the day. Logan Rycraft went 2 for 3 with 1 run scored and 1 walk in the game. James Holler and Landon Figg each earned a walk and scored a run on the day. Kolby Greenslade earned a hit in the game. In total, Northwest scored 7 runs off of 12 hits, 6 RBIs, 4 walks, 8 strike-outs, and left 8 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest committed 2 errors in the game.

Pitching, Joseph Hietpas earned the start and the win in the game. Hietpas' record now stands at 2-1 in 2017. In total, Hietpas worked 6.2 innings, allowed 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 10 strike-outs. Jacob Wagner came into the game in the 7th inning and worked 0.1 inning, allowed 0 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, and no strike-outs. In the 8th inning, Austin Battaglia came into the game and worked 1.0 inning and did not allow any hits or runs. UCM Game 3 - The Mules beat Northwest 9-4 to win Game 3 and the series.

Ozzie Adams went 1 for 4 with 1 run scored and 1 walk on the day. Landon Figg went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs and 1 run scored in the game. James Holler earned 2 walks on the day. Jay Hrdlicka went 2 for 3 with 1 walk and 1 run scored in the game. Kevin Handzlik earned a hit in the game. Kolby Greenslade went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI on the day. Logan Rycraft earned a hit in the game. In total, Northwest scored 4 runs off of 10 hits, 4 RBIs, 5 walks, 8 strike-outs, and left 8 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest did not commit an error in the game.

Pitching, Brad Roberts earned the start but had a tough day to pick-up the loss in the game. Brad's record is now 3-4 for the season. In total, Brad worked 4.0 innings, allowed 8 hits, 7 runs, 1 walk, 4 strike-outs and 2 wild pitches in the game. In the 5th inning, Jacob Wagner came into the game and worked 1.0 inning, allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks and 1 strike-out. Quinten VanAckeren came into the game in the 6th inning and worked 3.0 innings, allowed 0 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 2 strike-outs, 1 wild pitch and 1 balk. Nikko Pablo came into the game in the 9th inning and worked 1.0 inning, allowed 1 hit, 1 run, 0 walks, 2 strike-outs and 1 wild pitch. 
University of Nebraska-Kearney at Kearney - Series game 2 - Northwest beat the Lopers 8-2 in Kearney on Tuesday, March 28th.

Offensively, Landon Figg was Northwest's most valuable player in the game. In total, Figg went 3 for 4 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored in the game. Luke Hassman went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored on the day. James Holler went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI, 1 walk, and scored 2 runs in the game. Jay Hrdlicka went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs, 1 walk, and scored 1 run on the day. Luke Wilkinson went 1 for 1 in the game. Kolby Greenslade and Logan Rycraft each earned a walk on the day. In total, Northwest scored 8 runs off of 12 hits, 8 RBIs, 4 walks, 3 strike-outs, and left 9 runners on base. 

Defensively, Northwest committed 1 error in the game.

Pitching, Eddy Kraber earned the start and the win for his terrific performance. In total, Eddy worked 5.2 innings, allowed 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, 1 strike-out and 1 wild pitch. In the 6th inning, Jacob Wagner came into the game and worked 0.1 inning, allowed 0 hits and 0 runs. In the 7th inning, Austin Battaglia came into the game and worked 2.0 innings, allowed 0 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 1 strike-out. In the 9th inning, Nikko Pablo worked 1.0 inning, allowed 0 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 2 strike-outs. 
Next - Your Bearcat baseball team will travel to Pittsburgh, Kansas, to play a huge 3-game conference series against Pitt State. Game 1 is Friday, March 31st at 6pm. Game 2 is Saturday, April 1st at 1pm. Game 3 is Sunday, April 2nd at 1pm. This road series is big for Northwest and a key opportunity for the Cats to even their conference record to .500.
