Bearcats sweep Rockhurst, win 6-1

Maryville, Mo. - Your Northwest Missouri State Bearcat baseball team swept Rockhurst University this weekend with a convincing Sunday 6-1 victory in Maryville at Bearcat baseball field. Northwest used a big 7th inning to score the winning runs. The Bearcats bullpen came through with another scoreless outing to seal the victory for Northwest. Northwest's 2017 record now stands at 14-8 with the win.

Offensively, Logan Rycraft was Northwest's most valuable player. In total, Logan went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and scored 2 runs in the game. James Holler went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored on the day. Ozzie Adams went 1 for 4 (a 3-run home run) with 3 RBIs and 1 run scored in the game. Garrett Fort went 1 for 3 with 1 scored run and a sacrifice on the day. Jay Hrdlicka went 1 for 2 with 2 walks and 1 run scored in the game. In total, Northwest scored 6 runs off of 7 hits, 6 RBIs, 3 walks, 7 strike-outs, and left 4 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest did not commit an error.

Pitching, Joseph Hietpas earned the start and worked 5.0 innings of terrific baseball. In total, Joseph allowed 3 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 7 strike-outs, and threw 1 wild pitch. In the 6th inning, Brad Roberts came into the game and worked 2.0 innings, allowed 3 hits, 1 run, 0 walks, and 1 strike-out to pick-up the victory in the game. With the win, Brad's 2017 record advanced to 3-3. In the 8th inning, Austin Battaglia came into the game and worked 1.0 inning, allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks and 3 strike-outs in the game. In the 9th inning, Nikko Pablo came into the game and worked 1.0 inning, allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, and 2 strike-outs.

Next for NWMSU - Northwest has a huge 7 days ahead this week. The University of Nebraska-Kearney travels to Maryville on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, for a single 9-inning game starting at 2pm. Then, the University of Central Missouri travels to Maryville for a key 3-game series this weekend. Game 1 starts Friday, March 24th at 3pm. Game 2 starts Saturday, March 25th at 2pm. Game 3 starts Sunday, March 26th at 1pm.
