Washburn evens series, wins 6-2

Topeka, KS - The Ichabods used timely hitting and terrific pitching to beat your Bearcat baseball team 6-2 to win game 2 and even the series 1-1. Some positive notes, Logan Rycraft has found his groove at the plate and he is the Bearcats' hottest bat right now. Second, Anthony worked deep into the game and gave the team a chance to win. Third, the Bearcat bullpen had an exemplary day with 2.1 innings pitched, 0 runs, 1 hit, 0 walks, and 3 strike-outs. Learning points include (1) the Bearcat defense committing 2 errors and (2) an offense that could not muster the key hit when runners were on base. In total, tip your cap to the Washburn pitching staff for an exemplary performance. The two teams will play game 3 and series deciding match-up as the 2nd part of Friday's double-header.

Offensively, Logan Rycraft was Northwest's most valuable player for the second consecutive game. In total, Rycraft went 2 for 3 (including a triple) with a walk and a run scored in the game. Garrett Fort went 2 for 5 with 1 RBI on the day. Ozzie Adams (also a walk) and Landon Figg each picked-up a hit in the game. Luke Hassman went 1 for 4 (including a double) and a run scored on the day. James Holler went 1 for 3 (a double) with 1 RBI and 1 walk on the day. In total, Northwest scored 2 runs off of 8 hits, 2 RBIs, 4 walks, 9 strike-outs, and left 9 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest committed 2 errors that led to 1 unearned run in the game.

Pitching, Anthony Caenepeel worked 6.2 innings, allowed 6 runs (5 earned), 5 hits, 4 walks, and 5 strike-outs in the loss. Jacob Wagner came into the game in the 7th inning and worked 0.1 of an inning, allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, and 0 strike-outs. Quintin VanAckeren came into the game in the 8th inning and worked the final 2.0 innings, allowed 0 runs, 1 hit, 0 walks, 3 strike-outs, and hit 1 batter in the game.
