Washburn sweeps double-header, takes series 2-1

Topeka, KS - Your Bearcat baseball team may have been the home team on the scoreboard but Northwest did not find Topeka to be the friendly confines of Bearcat baseball field as the Ichabods swept Friday's double-header to win the series 2-1. Washburn won game 3 by the score 8-2. Game 3 was also the first time the Bearcat bullpen had a tough day by allowing 5 runs in a single inning in the 7th to put the game out of reach. What didn't help the bullpen was the fact that the Bearcat offense did not score a run until the 8th inning when the game was already 8-0. With the loss, Northwest falls to 11-8, 3-6 MIAA in 2017. A B2R shout-out to the Bearcat defense keeping its focus through out the game. In the 6th and 7th inning, the Bearcat bullpen gave up 4 walks, 3 hits, 1 wild pitch, 1 double, 1 home run, & 5 earned runs. Despite the Bullpen's tough day, Washburn's starting pitching was absolutely terrific and held a solid Bearcat offense in check for the second consecutive game.

Offensively, Landon Figg was the Bearcat most valuable player in Game 3. In total, Landon went 2 for 4 in the game. Garrett Fort went 1 for 5 (a double) on the day. Ozzie Adams picked-up a RBI with a sacrifice fly in the game. James Holler went 1 for 4 (a home run) with 1 RBI and 1 run scored on the day. Kevin Handzlik went 1 for 4 in the game. Alix Herrera earned a walk on the day. Nick Howard earned a walk in the game. Logan Rycraft earned a walk on the day. Kolby Greenslade went 1 for 4 with 1 run scored in the game. In total, Northwest scored 2 runs off of 6 hits, 2 RBIs, 3 walks, 1 strike-out, and 8 runners left on base.

Defensively, Northwest committed 1 error in the game.

Pitching, Brad Roberts earned the start in the game but picked-up the loss. In total, Brad worked 4.1 innings, allowed 3 runs (all earned), 5 hits, 2 walks and 5 strike-outs. In the 5th inning, Jacob Wagner came into the game to get Northwest out of the inning. In total, Jacob worked 0.2 of an inning, allowed 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 walks, and 0 strike-outs. In the 6th inning, Eddy Kraeber came into the game but had a tough day. In total, Eddy worked 1.0 inning, allowed 2 runs (both earned), 0 hits, 2 walks and 1 strike-out. In the 7th inning, Austin Battaglia came into the game but had a tough day. Austin did not record an out in his outing and allowed 2 runs (both earned), 0 hits, 2 walks, 0 strike-outs, and 1 wild pitch in the game. Jimmy McElwain came into the game in the 7th to relieve Battaglia. In total, Jimmy worked 1.0 inning, allowed 1 run, 3 hits, 0 walks and 1 strikeout in the game. In the 8th inning, Nikko Pablo came into the game and worked 2.0 innings, allowed 0 runs, 2 hits, 0 walks, 0 strike-outs, and hit 1 batter in the game.
