Veteran Profile - Derek Meyer
Maryville, Mo. - B2R features Derek Meyer in today's veteran profile. Derek Meyer enters the 2016 NCAA season as the Bearcats returning starter at Catcher. The Lincoln Pius X High School alum stands 5'8" and weighs 160 pounds. Derek is a Senior and comes from Lincoln, Nebraska. Derek is a favorite among the guys in the locker room. He interacts with the young guys and veterans alike with country charm and orneriness. I bet that million dollar smile of his has persuaded others many times through out his life. Regarding baseball, Derek is one tough dude. The kid flat out plays the game so well and he does so with such energy and love for the game. During the past 3 years, Derek has played his way into the line-up despite going up against older and/or bigger players. For example, Freshman Derek battled Senior JJ Baccari for catching duties to bat .310 in 2013. As a Sophomore, he split time with Junior Transfer and 6'3" Blake Hardegree in 2014. Last year, Derek earned the starting nod against Senior Hardegree and batted .269 on the year. In 2016, there are several players battling for the starting catcher position. Derek has proven over and over again it does not matter who comes into catch for the Bearcats, he'll be the starting catcher. Hard worker. Good dude. He's a guy that I would love see coach baseball to kids because he cares for people, plays the game the right way, and possesses quality teaching attributes. Here is the write-up from the Bearcats website:

B2R thoughts - In 2015, Derek hit .269 with 39 appearances, 34 starts, 104 plate appearances, 14 runs scored, 28 hits, 4 doubles, 12 RBIs, 32 total bases, .308 slugging percentage, 9 walks, 2 hit by pitches, .336 slugging percentage, 2 stolen bases in 2 attempts, only 3 errors and a .985 fielding percentage.
You can count the B2R as a big Derek Meyer fan. Derek embodies the meaning to be a Bearcat - hard worker, earns everything he gets, blue collar, and humble. Expect great things from Derek Meyer in 2016 and in life.
Go Cats!!
