CARDIAC CATS TAKE SERIES

Edmond, OK - In a thrilling series, your Cardiac Cats evened the series then took extra innings to win the series on the road 2-1. In an epic clash, Northwest used offense in game 2 to power a deciding game three. In game three, Northwest's pitching and defense carried the day with the help of timely hitting. In the end, the Bearcats used all three aspects of the game to win a hard fought match-up with a quality non-conference opponent. But, let's get back to the good stuff, your Northwest Bearcats finished the 2016 opening road trip to Southern schools and will return to Maryville with a 5-4 record. The Bearcats are living on pitching and defense and both are delivering for the team. I can't be more excited for the 2016 Bearcats baseball team. These guys are a resilient bunch. Stay tuned - the Cats will play their home opener and open conference play this weekend. Bring your popcorn, its gonna be a remarkable season.

Game 2 - Northwest defeated Oklahoma Christian University 10-7 to even the 3-game series. Northwest's offense exploded for 6 runs in the 1st inning and 4 runs in the 4th to carry the day. The game took 2 hours and 45 minutes to compete on a sunny and 75 degree day. The announced attendance was 110.

Offense - Northwest had several offensive MVPs in this game. Garrett Fort went 2 for 4 (including a triple) with one RBI, 2 runs scored, and was hit by a pitch. Nick Howard went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs and one run scored. Derek Meyer went 2 for 4 (including a double) with 3 RBIs in the game. Kolby Greenslade went 2 for 3 (including a double) with one run scored in the game. Nick Gotta went 1 for 3 with 2 walks, 2 runs scored, and 2 stolen bases. Ozzie Adams went 1 for 5 with one RBI and one run scored in the game. Jay Hrdlicka went 1 for 4 with one walk and 2 runs scored in the game. Jake Lewis went 1 for 3 (a double) with one RBI, one stolen base, was hit by a pitch, and one run scored in the game. In total, Northwest scored 10 runs off of 12 hits, 9 RBIs, 3 walks, 2 strike-outs, and left 5 runners on base.

Defense - Northwest was not charged with an error in the game.

Pitching - Joseph Hietpas picked-up the win and saw his 2016 record advance to 3-0. In total, Joseph worked 5.1 innings, allowed 5 hits, 3 runs (all earned), 2 walks, 6 strike-outs, 2 wild pitches, 0 balks, and he hit one batter. Austin Battaglia came into the game in the 6th inning and worked 2.0 innings, allowed 0 hits, 2 runs (both earned), 2 walks, 2 strike-outs, did not hit a batter, 0 wild pitches, and 0 balks in the game. Jacob Wagner came into the game in the 8th inning and worked 0.1 inning, allowed 2 hits, 1 earned run, 0 walks, 1 strike-out, 0 wild pitches, 0 balks, and he did not hit a batter. Carson Smith was the MVP of the game with his 3.0 innings pitched, picked-up the win, and worked a perfect 9th and 10th innings.
