UCO wins Game 1


Edmond, OK - The University of Central Oklahoma defeated your Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat baseball team 9-6 to win Game 1 of the series on April 22, 2016, in Edmond, Oklahoma. The game took 3 hours and 5 minutes to complete. The Bronchos and Bearcats played in 78 degrees with clear skies and breezy winds. 100 people were in attendance at the game according to the UCO Bronchos website. With the loss, Northwest's record falls to 21-19, 16-14 MIAA. UCO's record now stands at 24-16, 16-13 MIAA. The Bronchos tagged Northwest's starter Anthony Caenepeel for four runs in the first inning and did not look back the rest of the game. Northwest would score 5 runs in the the 8th & 9th innings to put pressure on the Bronchos. In the end, there wasn't enough offense for Northwest to keep pace with the UCO early lead. Northwest and UCO will play Game 2 on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at 1pm, in Edmond.

Offense - Nick Gotta was Northwest's MVP in Game 1. Go-Go-Gotta went 3 for 5 (including a home run) with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored in the game. It was Nick's first home run in 2016. Ozzie Adams went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI and a sacrifice in the game. Jake Lewis went 2 for 3 (including a double) with 1 RBI, 1 run scored and 1 walk in the game. Aaron Barratt went 1 for 4 with 1 run scored and 1 stolen base in the game. Garrett Fort also went 1 for 4 with 1 stolen base in the game. In total, Northwest scored 6 runs off of 9 hits, 4 RBIs, 4 walks, and 7 runners left on base.

Defense - Northwest was charged with 1 error which led to 1 unearned run in the game.

Pitching - Anthony Caenepeel earned the start in Game 1 but had a tough day. With the loss, Anthony's 2016 record falls to 5-7. UCO jumped on AC in the first inning by hitting a 3-run home run then adding a 4th run all before the top of the 2nd. In total, Anthony worked 5.0 innings, allowed 10 hits, 8 runs (7 earned), 2 walks, 5 strike-outs, 0 wild pitches, 0 balks, and he did not hit a batter. Jacob Wagner came into the game in the 6th inning and worked 2.0 innings, allowed 2 hits, 1 run (earned), 0 walks, 0 strike-outs, 0 wild pitches, 0 balks, and he did not hit a batter in the game. In the 8th inning, Bryce Shea came into the game to close it out for the Bearcats. In total, Bryce worked 1.0 inning, allowed 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 0 strike-outs, 1 wild pitch, 0 balks, and he did not hit a batter in the game.
