Cats win Game 2, take series, look to sweep SWB Sunday

CATS WIN GAME 2, TAKE SERIES, LOOK TO SWEEP SWB SUNDAY

Maryville, Mo. - Your Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat baseball team defeated Southwest Baptist 7-4 to win the series' Game 2 on Saturday in Maryville. The Cats have won the 3-game series and look to sweep Game 3 on Sunday. The Cardiac Cats jumped out to an early 7-0 lead but allowed 4 unearned runs in the Top of the 8th inning to make the game uncomfortable in the 9th. With the game in doubt, Northwest called upon Senior Carson Smith to close out the game and the power righty slammed the door shut to preserve the win. The two MVPs for Northwest in Game 2 were starting pitcher Brad Roberts and second baseman Ozzie Adams. Roberts worked 7.0 innings, allowed 0 runs and struck-out 4 batters. Ozzie went 3 for 3 (including a double) with 3 RBIs, got hit by a pitch, and 1 run scored in the game. With Game 2's victory, Northwest's 2016 record stands at 20-17, 15-12 MIAA, which puts them in 6th place and 1 game back from 5th place Missouri Southern.

Offense - Ozzie Adams was Northwest's MVP in Game 2. Ozzie went 3 for 3 (including a double) with 3 RBIs, 1 HBP, and 1 run scored while playing second base in the game. Nick Gotta went 2 for 5 (including a double and a triple) with 1 RBI, 1 stolen base and 2 runs scored in the game. James Holler went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI and 1 stolen base while playing first base in the game. Jake Lewis went 2 for 3 (including a double) with 1 walk while playing catcher in the game. Jay Hrdlicka went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI and 1 hit by a pitch while playing the designated hitter. Kolby Greenslade went 1 for 4 with 1 run scored in the game. In total, Northwest scored 7 runs off of 11 hits, 6 RBIs, 4 walks, 7 strike-outs, and left 7 runners on base in the game. 

Defense - Northwest was charged with 3 errors in the game which led to 4 unearned runs in the game. 

Pitching - Brad Roberts earned the start in Game 2 and did an outstanding job for Northwest. In total, Brad worked 7.0 innings, allowed 6 hits, 2 unearned runs, 4 walks, 5 strike-outs, 1 wild pitch, 0 balks, and he did not hit a batter in the game. Bryce Shea came into the game in the 8th inning and worked 1.0 inning, allowed 1 hit, 2 unearned runs,  0 walks, 1 strike-out, 0 wild pitches, 0 balks, and he did not hit a batter. Carson Smith came into the game in the 9th inning to work the final 1.0 inning, allowed 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 2 strike-outs, 0 wild pitches, 0 balks, and he did not hit a batter in the game. 

Next - Northwest will face SWB in Game 3 on Sunday in Maryville.
