Northwest wins game 4, currently sits as a 8th seed in play-offs -

Topeka, Kansas - Your Northwest Bearcats won game four of the series against the Washburn Ichabods on Sunday afternoon by the score 7-4.  Northwest's victory today was huge in multiple aspects:

1) Northwest's conference record is 11-10 and moved the Bearcats from 10th place after Saturday's double-header to 8th place after Sunday's game;
2) Ryker Fox pitched into the 8th inning and allowed the Bearcats' bullpen a rest;
3) Northwest is 11-7 in conference road games with only 4 road games remaining this season; and
4) Northwest's 12 of 16 remaining games will be played in Maryville.

Your Bearcat starting 9 included Brandon Huske, SS, Jon Pomatto, RF, Ryan Abernathy, CF, Eric McLaughlin, DH, Austin Wulff, LF, James Holler, 1B, Paul Johnson, 2B, Derek Meyer, C, Zack Ferreira, 3B, and your starting pitcher was Ryker Fox.

Offensively, Northwest scored 7 runs off of 5 hits, 6 RBIs, 4 walks, and 4 strike-outs.  Your Bearcats had a balanced offensive attack with several Bearcats contributing to score the runs:

Brandon Huske went 1 for 4 (a triple) with a RBI and a walk;
Ryan Abernathy went 1 for 4 (a double) with a RBI, and a run scored;
James Holler went 1 for 3 with a run scored and a walk;
Derek Meyer went 1 for 3 with a RBI and a run scored;
Zack Ferreira went 1 for 3 (a double) with a RBI and a walk; and
Paul Johnson went 0 for 2 but reached base twice by being hit by a pitch, plus earned a walk and stole a base.

Defensively, Northwest was charged with one error in the game (Paul Johnson).

Pitching, your Bearcat starter was Ryker Fox and he was a work horse for the team.  Ryker picked-up the victory for his efforts and saw his 2014 record advance to 5-2.  In total, Ryker worked 7.2 innings, allowed 10 hits, 4 runs (all earned with 3 runs coming in the bottom of the 8th and his final inning), 1 walk, 2 strike-outs, 1 wild pitch, 0 balks, and he hit one batter.  Brian came into the game in the bottom of the 8th inning and worked 0.1 inning, allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 walk, 0 strike-outs, 1 wild pitch, 0 balks, and he did not hit a batter.  Brian started the 9th inning for the 'Cats but was pulled for Jon Pomatto after Brian faced one batter.  Jon Pomatto picked-up his third save of 2014 and worked 1.0 inning, allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, 0 strike-outs, 0 wild pitches, 0 balks, and he did not hit a batter.

Notable Bearcats -

Eric McLaughlin hit .357 in the Washburn series with 3 runs scored, 6 RBIs, 2 home runs, and 2 walks.












Jon Pomatto picked-up his third save of 2014 after he threw a scoreless 9th inning.  In addition, Jon hit .286 with 5 runs scored and 1 walk.












Ryker Fox picked-up his 5th win of the season as he pitched into the 8th inning this weekend against Washburn.  Ryker worked 7.2 innings and got the win for the Bearcats.
