UCO wins game 2, rubber match set for Sunday

Maryville, Mo. - The University of Central Oklahoma defeated your Northwest Missouri State Bearcat baseball team 10-0 on Saturday in Maryville. Tip your cap to the UCO pitcher who took a no hitter into the bottom of the last inning before allowing 2 hits. Despite losing the no hitter, the UCO pitcher earned a complete game shut-out victory on an exemplary performance. Attaboy.

By dropping Game 2, the series rubber match is set for Sunday, April 23rd, at 1pm in Maryville.

Offensively, UCO's pitching held the Bearcats in check. Ozzie Adams and Landon Figg each earned a hit in the game and James Holler walked in the 2nd. In total, Northwest did not score a run, earned 2 hits, 1 walk, 3 strike-outs and left 2 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest committed 3 errors that led to 3 unearned runs in the game. 

Pitching, Joseph Hietpas earned the start but picked-up the loss to see his 2017 record go to 4-3. In total, Hietpas worked 5.1 innings, allowed 3 hits, 5 runs (only 3 earned), 4 walks and 5 strike-outs. In the 6th inning, Jacob Wagner came into the game and worked 0.2 of an inning, allowed 2 hits, 1 unearned run and 1 walk in his outing. In the 7th inning, Austin Battaglia came into the game and had a tough day. In total, Austin worked 0.2 of an inning, allowed 5 hits and 4 runs. With 2 outs, Jimmy McElwain came into the game to get the final out and worked 0.1 of an inning without allowing a hit or a run. 


Next - The series' rubber match is Sunday at 1pm. This game is huge for both squads as each team is fighting for a berth into the Conference post-season tournament. Fans can expect an epic match-up at Bearcat baseball field.
