Groovy Greenslade, No-No Nikko, & B-Rob shine as 'Cats take series


Maryville, Mo. - Brad Roberts terrific start, Kolby Greenslade's cluth hitting, and Nikko's 3-inning scoreless relief all shine as your Bearcat baseball team beat the University of Central Oklahoma 5-2 on Sunday in Maryville to win the 3-game series. Brad Roberts was huge in Game 3 as he worked 5 innings, struck out 5, only walked 1, and gave up 1 earned run. Kolby Greenslade had a game as he went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs and some terrific defense in left field. Sprinkle in Nikko Pablo's exemplary 3 innings of scoreless relief protecting a 3-run lead to win the game and series for the Bearcats. It was a complete team victory as Northwest's record now stands at 26-16, 15-14 MIAA, 6th place in the MIAA.

Offensively, Kolby Greenslade was Northwest's most valuable player. In total, Kolby went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs at left field. Kevin Handzlik also had a game and went 2 for 4 with a double as the designated hitter. Ozzie Adams is the Joe DiMaggio of Northwest Missouri State University and was on-base again. In total, Ozzie went 2 for 3 with a walk and 2 runs scored in the game. Garrett Fort went 1 for 4 with 1 run scored and a stolen base in the game. James Holler went 1 for 2 with 2 walks and a stolen base on the day. Jay Hrdlicka earned a walk, a RBI, a stolen base and scored a run as the Bearcat catcher. In total, Northwest scored 5 runs off of 8 hits, 5 RBIs, 5 walks, 8 strike-outs, and left 6 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest committed 1 error that led to 1 unearned run in the game.


Pitching, Brad Roberts picked-up the win in a terrific outing against Central Oklahoma to see his 2017 record move to 6-4. In total, Roberts worked 5.0 innings, allowed 5 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), 1 walk and 5 strike-outs. In the 6th inning, Jacob Wagner came into the game and worked 1.0 inning, allowed no hits, no runs and struck out 1 batter. In the 7th inning, Nikko Pablo came into the game and worked 3.0 innings, allowed 5 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 1 strike-out.

Next - Your Bearcat baseball team travels to St. Joseph to take on the Missouri Western Griffons in a mid-week clash on Wednesday, April 26th at 4pm. Northwest stays on the road and then travels to Kansas to take on the Emporia State Hornets in a 3-game series. Game 1 is Friday, April 28th at 6pm. Game 2 is Saturday, April 29th at 1pm. Game 3 is Sunday, April 30th at Noon. All MIAA teams are racing down the stretch to make the conference post-season tournament. It just cannot get any more exciting than this. You gotta love these guys. Wow, what a ride.
