Defensive lapses snap winning streak at Pitt State



All good things must end as Northwest lost to Pitt State on Saturday to end its 7-game winning streak by a score 11-6.  With the loss, Northwest falls to 21-26, 18-23 MIAA.  With the win, Pitt State's 2013 improves to 25-20, 21-18 MIAA.

Offensively, Ryan Abernathy, CF, led the way with a 3 for 3 performance at the plate (including a triple and a home run), 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and 1 walk. Eric McGlauflin, DH, went 3 for 4 (including a double) with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.  Steven Garber, 1B, went 2 for 5 (2 doubles) with 2 RBIs in the game.  Tyler Durant, RF, went 2 for 5 with a RBI in the game.  Charlie Krueger, LF, went 1 for 4 (a double) with a run scored.  In total, Northwest scored 6 runs off of 11 hits, 6 RBIs, 5 walks, 11 strike outs, and left 10 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest committed 6 errors (Huske with 2, Meyer, Fox with 2, Brady) and executed one double play in the game.  The errors led to 9 unearned runs for the Gorillas.

Pitching, Ryker Fox earned the start but picked up the loss to see his 2013 record fall to 5-5.  In total, Fox worked 3.0 innings, allowed 5 hits, 5 runs (all unearned), 4 walks, 1 strike out, 0 wild pitches, 0 balks, and did not hit a batter.  Patrick Brady came into the game in the 4th inning and worked 2.1 innings, allowed 4 hits, 5 runs (only 2 earned), 1 walk, 1 strike out, 1 wild pitch, no balks, and hit a batter.  Blane Reutter came into the game in the 6th inning and closed out the game.  Reutter worked 2.2 innings, allowed 5 hits, 1 unearned run, 0 walks, 0 strike outs, 0 wild pitches, 0 balks, and hit a batter.  Pitt State scored 3 runs in the 1st, 2 runs in the 2nd, 0 runs in the 3rd, (Brady comes in the 4th inning), 0 runs in the 4th inning, 1 run in the 5th, 5 runs in the 6th, (Reutter comes in with one out in the 6th), 0 runs in the 7th, and 0 runs in the 8th inning.

Next up, Northwest plays games 2 and 3 at Pitt State in Pittsburgh, Kansas, to conclude the regular season on Sunday, April 28, 2013.  First pitch is set for 1pm.
