Bearcats pound Northwestern Oklahoma State, 15-0

Alva, OK - Your Northwest Missouri State Bearcat baseball team pounded Northwestern Oklahoma State 15-0 in a run rule shortened game on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Myers Field in Alva, Oklahoma. The Bearcats knocked the cover off of the baseball all game long, played solid defense, and JOSEPH HIETPAS was the man in one of the most statistically dominating pitching performances in the B2R's memory.

Congratulations to Luke Hassman for making his Bearcat debut on Saturday, February 4, 2017. It was a remarkable debut as Luke hit 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and 1 walk.

Offensively, it is hard to pick a MVP when the team scores 15 runs in 7 innings. Its a tough job but the B2R is up to the challenge. Your man GARRETT FORT is the offensive MVP. Fort went 2 for 5 with 1 home run, 1 walk, 3 RBIs, and 1 run scored. A close second was ALIX HERRERA who went 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored and got hit by a pitch. Several Bearcats had terrific offensive statistics in the game including:

Ozzie Adams hit 2 for 6 with 2 runs scored;
James Holler went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and 1 walk;
Kevin Handzlik went 2 for 5 with 1 run scored;
Landon Figg went 1 for 2 with 2 walks, 1 RBI, and 2 runs scored;
Luke Hassman hit 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and 1 walk;
Logan Rycraft went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs, 1 run scored, and 1 walk;
Austin Wulff hit 1 for 2 with 1 run scored in the game.

In total, Northwest scored 15 runs off of 16 hits, 10 RBIs, 7 walks, 9 strike-outs, and left 13 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest committed 1 error in the game.

Pitching, JOSEPH HIETPAS was the man and came out with the proverbial "Not so fast, my friend" to Anthony Caenepeel's exemplary pitching performance the day before. Joe earned the complete game shut-out victory with a dominating performance. In total, Hietpas pitched 7.0 innings, allowed 2 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks, 15 strike-outs, 0 wild pitches, 0 balks, and did not hit a batter.  Think about that - 15 strike-outs in 7 innings. That means MORE than 2 of 3 outs by the opposing team didn't even put the ball in play. It looks like Caenepeel has some competition for MIAA pitcher of the week and it came only 24 hours later. The B2R's recommendation to Mike Racy, the new MIAA Commissioner, is to give co-Pitchers of the Week to Caenepeel and Hietpas.
