Series Preview - Missouri Western



Northwest plays Missouri Western on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, in Maryville, on a double-header commencing at 1 o'clock p.m. at Bearcat baseball field.  There will be a single 7-inning game and a second 9-inning game.  The game has been moved up due to forecasted snowy weather conditions in the Maryville area later in the week.

Missouri Western is on a remarkable start to the 2013 season.  Western has a overall record of 15-3, 4-0 in home games, 7-3 in road games, 4-0 in neutral games, and a perfect 10-0 in the MIAA.  Western's strength is its incredible offense with 4 players (both full-time and part-time players) batting .500 or better, plus an additional 4 players (both full-time and part-time) batting .400 or better, plus two more players batting .300 or better.  Defensively, the Griffons are an average fielding bunch with a team fielding percentage of .957.  Pitching, Westerns boasts a team ERA of 4.52, 99 walks and 60 strike-outs.  Western has won 14 straight games.

Northwest Missouri State Bearcats baseball team enters 2013 season with a 6-14 record, 2-2 in home games, 3-8 on the road, 1-4 at neutral site games, and 4-11 in the MIAA.  The Bearcats have won 4 of the last 6 games.  Northwest's offense has 4 players batting .300 or better.  Northwest is fielding a respectable .963 percentage as a team.  Northwest's pitching has struggled but is improving and presently stands at 7.46.
