Northeastern State sweeps Bearcats, Home opener this Friday

Tahlequah, OK - Northeastern State won games two and three over Northwest Missouri State to sweep the 3-game series. Northwest is 8-5, 0-3 MIAA in 2017. Northwest is in a 4-way tie with an 0-3 MIAA record along with Washburn, Fort Hays State, and Pittsburgh State Universities. The stories of the games changed as either (1) Northwest couldn't muster enough offense to help their starting pitching, (2) starting pitching could not go deep into the game, or (3) the defense gave unearned runs and extra outs. In game 1, Northwest's starting pitching lasted 2.1 inning, the Bearcat defense committed 2 errors that led to 1 unearned run, and 2 of the 4 Northwest runs came in the 9th inning when the game was 8-2. In game 2, Northwest's starting pitching took a no hitter to the 7th inning and worked a complete game but the Bearcat offense only had 3 players with a hit in the game and wasted the 7 walks and 6 hit batsmen given by the Riverhawks. In game 3, Northwest's starting pitching had to leave in the 5th inning without getting an out, defense committed 3 errors that led to 3 unearned runs, and the offense mustered 6 hits (3 from Ozzie Adams) and stranded 9 runners.

Despite the disappointing start to the MIAA Conference play, Northwest finally gets some home games and will play their home opener this weekend against Lindenwood University. Last year, Lindenwood hit the ball hard and the games were intense. Plan now to attend each of the 3 games to watch.

Game 2 - Despite Anthony Caenepeel taking a no hitter into the 7th inning, Northwest could not muster enough offense to take advantage of AC's exemplary pitching performance as Northwest lost 3-2.

Offensively, Northwest could not muster the big hit to take advantage of 7 walks and 6 hit batsmen, and left 16 runners on base. Only three Bearcats managed hits in the game. Your offensive MVPs of the game were Ozzie Adams and Luke Hassman. Ozzie Adams went 2 for 3 with 1 walk in the game. Luke Hassman went 2 for 3 with 1 walk in the game. Garrett Fort went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI, 1 run scored, and 1 walk in the game. In total, Northwest scored 2 runs off of 5 hits, 2 RBIs, 7 walks, 11 strike-outs, and left 16 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest did not commit an error in the game.

Pitching, Anthony Caenepeel took a no hitter into the 7th inning but ran into trouble as Northeastern State would score all the runs they would need to win the game 3-2. In total, Anthony's performance was exemplary but his record falls to 3-1 in 2017. In total, Anthony worked 8.0 innings, allowed 3 hits, 3 runs (all earned), 2 walks, 12 strike-outs, and hit 1 batter in the game.

Game 3 - Northwest had a tough day defensively and at the plate and therefore lost Game 3 to Northeastern State by the score 6-3. Northwest's record fell to 8-5, 0-3 MIAA with the series sweep.

Offensively, Ozzie Adams was your offensive MVP in the game. In total, Ozzie Adams went 3 for 4 with 1 walk in the game. Alix Herrera went 1 for 5 with 1 RBI on the day. Landon Figg went 1 for 3 (a double) with 1 RBI in the game. Luke Hassman went 1 for 3 (a home run) with 1 RBI and 1 run scored on the day. In total, Northwest scored 3 runs off of 6 hits, 3 RBIs, 4 walks, 10 strike-outs, and left 9 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest committed 3 errors that led to 3 unearned runs in the game.

Pitching, Brad Roberts earned the start in the game but was tagged with the loss in the game. Brad's record fell to 1-2 with the decision. In total, Brad worked 4.0 innings, allowed 3 hits, 4 runs (only 2 earned), 7 walks, 3 strike-outs, 1 wild pitch, and hit 2 batters in the game. Logan Moose worked 1.0 inning, allowed 1 hit and 1 run in his outing in the 5th inning. Quintin VanAckeren came into the game in the 6th and worked 1.0 inning, allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 walk, and 0 strike-outs in his outing. Jimmy McElwain came into the game in the 7th and worked 1.0 inning, allowed 2 hits, 1 unearned run, 0 walks, and 1 strike-out in the game. In the 8th inning, Austin Battaglia came into the game and worked 1.0 inning, allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks and struck-out 2 batters in the game.

Hietpas exits early, Bearcats lose 8-4

Tahlequah, Oklahoma - Northwest's starting pitching allowed 7 runs in the first 3 innings and the Bearcat offense could not keep pace as the Northeastern State University Riverhawks beat the Bearcats 8-4 to open MIAA Conference play at 0-1 in 2017. The game took only 2 hours and 33 minutes to complete at Rousey Field in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The Bearcat defense committed 2 errors to not help the situation. Add in only 8 hits, 2 walks, and 2 RBIs by the Bearcat offense and you have a recipe for a tough day on the baseball diamond. With the loss, Northwest's record falls to 8-2, 0-1 MIAA. Fear not Bearcat fans as Anthony Caenepeel will pick-up the ball to start Game 2 for Northwest on Saturday. The boys will be fired-up and the B2R predicts a tough day for the Riverhawks. Add in an offense itching the score runs and a defense ready to pounce on every ball in play, and the ingredients are ready for a Bearcat victory. Although a tough day for Joe, he is a team leader and will make adjustments to have a successful outing next week. Joe's work ethic and tenacity is second to none. Although the Riverhawks carried the day today, Northwest will be ready to grab Game 2 on Saturday.

Offensively, three Bearcats tied for the most valuable players. First, Garrett Fort went 2 for 5 in the game. Second, Alix Herrera went 2 for 4 (including a double) with 1 RBI and 1 run scored on the day. Third, Logan Rycraft went 2 for 3 with 1 run scored in the game. Ozzie Adams picked-up a hit and a RBI as well as was hit by a pitch on the day. Kevin Handzlik had a double, a walk, and a run scored in the game. In total, Northwest scored 4 runs off of 8 hits, 2 RBIs, 3 walks, 9 strike-outs, and left 7 runners on base in the game.

Defensively, Northwest committed 2 errors that led to 1 unearned run.

Pitching, Joseph Hietpas earned the start for Northwest but had a tough day. In total, Hietpas worked 2.1 innings, allowed 8 hits, 7 runs (6 earned), 1 walk, 2 strike-outs, 0 balks, 0 wild pitches, and did not hit a batter. In the 3rd inning, Eddy Kraeber came into the game and did an outstanding job for the Bearcats. In total, Eddy worked 5.1 innings, allowed 5 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and 3 strike-outs.

Bearcats win another road series, now 8-2

Edmond, OK - Your Northwest Missouri State Bearcat baseball team put together another solid weekend on the road to win its series against OCU. The Bearcats went 2-1 on the weekend against Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond, Oklahoma. Northwest's offense was huge all weekend and averaged nearly 7 runs per game. Northwest's starting pitching was also huge as each starter worked at least 6.0 innings. The Bearcat defense was solid with zero errors in 2 games and a total of 2 unearned runs allowed all series. The Bearcat bullpen rebounded nicely after a tough outing in game 1 to preserve the win in game 3. Northwest was one out away from sweeping the weekend series but showed great resolve to rebound after a tough loss in game 1 to take games 2 & 3 of the series. All in all, the B2R is very pleased with the Bearcats resiliency and "can do" attitude to adjust after a tough game 1 to win the series.

Game 1 - Oklahoma Christian University walked-off the field with a come from behind victory 8-7 to win game 1 of the series in dramatic fashion. The defeat spoiled a terrific day for Joseph Hietpas. In the game, Northwest had a 7-1 lead going into the bottom of the 9th. A tough day for the Bearcat bullpen resulted in OCU scoring 7 runs in the bottom of the 9th to win the game. There were no errors in the game so it came down to a bullpen that got tight and couldn't execute their pitches. Tip your cap to OCU. While the loss stung, its important for the overall season success to see which pitchers best match-up in certain situations. Adjustments will be made and the Bearcats will be fine.

Offensively, the Bearcats had an outstanding day with several extra-base hits. Ozzie Adams wast the offensive MVP for Northwest in game 1. Ozzie went 3 for 5 (including a double) with 3 RBIs in the game. Garrett Fort also went 3 for 5 (including 1 double) with 1 RBI, 1 stolen base, and 1 run scored on the day. Kevin Handzlik went 2 for 4 (including 1 double) with 1 run scored in the game. Luke Hassman went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI from a home run and 1 run scored on the day. Jay Hrdlicka had a fine day at the plate. In total, Jay went 2 for 3 including a home run with 2 RBIs, 1 stolen base, was hit by a pitch, and scored 2 runs in the game. Alix Herrera went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored in the game. Logan Rycraft went 1 for 3 on the day. In total, Northwest scored 7 runs off of 14 hits, 7 RBIs, 0 walks, 9 strike-outs, and left 7 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest did not commit an error in the game.

Pitching, Joseph Hietpas had some tough luck in the game and did not factor into the decision. Joseph worked 6.2 innings, allowed 4 hits, 1 run, 4 walks, 5 strike-outs, and 1 wild pitch in the game. With 2 outs in the 7th inning, Jacob Wagner came into the game and worked 0.1 inning, allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, and 1 strike-out. In the 8th inning, Jimmy McElwain came into the game and pitched 1.0 inning. Jimmy allowed 0 hits, 0 runs, and walked 1 batter in an excellent outing. Bryce Shea came into the game in the 9th inning but had a tough outing. Bryce worked 0.2 of an inning, allowed 2 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk, 1 strike-out, and 1 wild pitch. Nikko Pablo came into the game to get the final out but could not stop OCU's momentum. Nikko did not record an out and allowed 4 hits, 4 runs, and hit 1 batter in the walk-off loss.

Tomorrow is a new day. Northwest will turn the page and come out firing on all cylinders for games 2 and 3.

Game 2 - Anthony Caenepeel was the man, again, and worked a complete game victory for Northwest to take game 2 by the score 7-1. The game was 7 innings by agreement since the two teams elected to play a double-header due to forecasted weather in Edmond on Sunday. For his efforts, Anthony's record advanced to 3-0 on the year. It was Anthony's 2nd strong argument to be the MIAA pitcher of the week in 3 weeks. Add in plenty of Bearcat offense and Northwest evened the series to force a deciding game 3. Northwest's focus and execution following game 1 was huge and an encouraging sign for the season.

Offensively, James Holler was Northwest's most valuable player in game 2. On the day, James went 2 for 4 Iincluding a double) with 2 RBIs. Alix Herrera went 2 for 3 (including a double) with 1 run scored in the game. Garrett Fort went 1 for 1 (a double) with 3 runs scored, 2 walks, 1 stolen base, and was hit by a pitch. Ozzie Adams had the biggest hit of the game and went 1 for 3 (a double) with 3 RBIs, 1 run scored, and 1 walk on the day. Landon Figg went 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 1 run scored in the game. Kevin Handzlik went 1 for 4 on the day. Luke Hassman went 1 for 3 with 1 run scored in the game. In total, Northwest scored 7 runs off of 9 hits, 7 RBIs, 3 walks, 5 strike-outs, and left 4 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest did not commit an error in the game.

Pitching, Anthony Caenepeel made a second consecutive excellent argument why he should be MIAA pitcher of the week. Anthony worked a complete game victory to see his 2017 record advance to 3-0 on the year. Anthony allowed 8 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and 8 strike-outs in the game.

With the series tied 1-1, Northwest will turn to Brad Roberts to win the deciding game 3.

Game 3 - Brad Roberts and the Bearcat offense worked together to win game 3 by the score 6-4. This story is a continuation of the lessons learned in game 1. A couple of defensive miscues resulted in 2 unearned runs and keep OCU in striking distance of taking the lead. But, behind Coach Darin Loe's keen strategy and cool stewardship, the Bearcats hung there despite the added pressure of a tightening game to win the day and series. Actually, Northwest's defense had its first tough day of the series in game 3 but the Bearcat offense and pitching proved too much for Oklahoma Christian University. With the game 3 victory, Northwest's record now stands at 8-2 on the year.

Offensively, Northwest jumped all over OCU's starting pitcher to knock him out of the game after recording only 1 out. James Holler was Northwest's most valuable offensive player in the game. James went 2 for 3 (including a double) with 2 RBIs, 2 walks, and 1 run scored in the game. Kevin Handzlik went 2 for 5 with 1 run scored on the day. Jay Hrdlicka went 2 for 4 in the game. Luke Hassman went 2 for 3, was hit by a pitch, had a sacrifice, and scored 1 run in the game. Alix Herrera went 1 for 5 with 1 RBI in the game. Garrett Fort went 1 for 5 (a double) with 1 walk and 1 run scored on the day. Ozzie Adams went 1 for 4 (a double) with 2 RBIs, 1 run scored, and 1 walk in the game. Landon Figg went 1 for 4 with 1 walk and 1 run scored on the day. In total, Northwest scored 6 runs off of 12 hits, 5 RBIs, 7 walks, 7 strike-outs, and left 13 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest committed 2 errors in the game.

Pitching, Brad Roberts had a terrific day for Northwest to win the series' deciding game 3. In total, Brad worked 6.0 innings, allowed 5 hits, 1 run, 0 walks, 5 strike-outs, and hit 2 batters in the game. Eddy Kraeber had another excellent outing and worked 2.0 innings, allowed 4 hits, 3 runs (only 1 earned), 0 walks, and 1 strike-out in the game. In the 9th, Nikko Pablo came into the game to pick-up his 3rd save of 2017. Nikko worked 1.0 inning, allowed 0 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, and 1 strike-out in the game.

Chewie's kitchen - Goose fajitas

Welcome to B2R's food program, "Chewie's kitchen," where we highlight tasty recipes for the Bearcat nation.

Today's show, we discuss "Goose fajitas"

B2R - Chef Chewie, what's on tap for today's show?

Chef Chewie - Today, we are going to make Goose fajitas, BAM.

B2R - Sounds fantastic, let's get started.

Chef Chewie -

First, we go hunting and tag 2-3 geese during hunting season and within the rules and regulations of the Missouri Department of Conservation.

B2R - Very good point Chef. Always practice good choices.

Chef Chewie -

Next, put 4-6 goose breasts into a crockpot and pour a pot of coffee into it. Cook on high until meat falls apart (usually 8-10 hours depending on your crockpot).

B2R - Mmm mm, smells fantastic. What's next?

Chef Chewie -

Pull meat apart with a fork then drain most of the liquid. Put it in a pan and pour 2 bottles of liquid smoke over the pulled goose. Marinade for at least 3 hours.

Chop 2-3 roasted bell peppers, 1 sweet onion, and cook until soft in a separate pan.

Add the pulled goose in the pan with the vegetables until hot. Then, serve on tortillas with your favorite fajita condiments.

Enjoy. BAM

B2R - Well, we hope you enjoyed this episode of Chewie's Kitchen. Thank you and good night.

Blogofprospects - Northwest and MO Southern make jumps with solid weeks

Charlie Meyer has a website that ranks his opinion on the top NCAA Division 2 baseball teams in the State of Missouri. His initial poll had our Northwest Missouri State Bearcat baseball team ranked 9th out of 13 squads. A respectful disagreement ensued.

Following Northwest's hot start to the season, Charlie now has Northwest as his #5 NCAA Division 2 baseball team in the State of Missouri. Per request, he even included a Northwest baseball hat in the article. Charlie has UCM as #1, Rockhurst as #2, Missouri S&T #3, Drury #4, and Northwest as #5.

Although unscientific and one person's opinion, the discussion and work is fascinating and worth noting that other people are noticing Northwest's success.

Truman defeats Bearcats, 6-2

Arkadelphia, AR - The Truman State Bulldogs defeated your Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat baseball team on Saturday, February 11, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, by the score 6-2. Northwest's defensive lapse in the 1st inning proved fatal as the Bearcats could not muster much offense against the Bulldog pitching staff. Despite the loss, Northwest concluded its season opening road trip of Southern schools at 6-1. Northwest returned home following the game where they will spend the week back in classes before returning to the road this weekend against Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond, Oklahoma.

A hearty B2R congratulations to Quinten VanAckeren on making his Bearcat debut on Saturday, February 11, 2017, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, against the Truman State Bulldogs. Quinten stands 6'3", weighs 190 pounds, and is a freshman from Omaha, Nebraska, where he graduated from Papillion LaVista South High School. VanAckeren came into the game in the 6th inning in relief of Brad Roberts.

Offensively, Northwest could not generate much offense against the Bulldog pitching staff. James Holler was the most valuable player for the Bearcats. James went 2 for 4 (including a double) with 2 RBIs in the game. Ozzie Adams was the only other Bearcat to muster a hit off of Truman State's pitching (a double) and went 1 for 4 with 1 run scored on the day. Landon Figg, Kevin Handzlik, Jay Hrdlicka, Logan Rycraft, and Kolby Greenslade all earned a walk in the game. In total, Northwest scored 2 runs off of 3 hits, 2 RBIs, 5 walks, 7 strike-outs, and left 6 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest committed 1 error and allowed 2 unearned runs to score.

Pitching, Brad Roberts earned the start for Northwest Missouri State University. A 1st inning error led to 2 unearned runs and Northwest went to bat in the 1st inning down 3 runs. After the 1st, both Brad and the Bearcat defense settled down and did not allow any more runs until they ran into trouble in the 6th inning. In total, Brad pitched 5.1 innings, allowed 6 hits, 5 runs (only 3 earned), 2 walks, 1 strike-out, 2 wild pitches, 0 balks, and he did not hit a batter. Nikko nearly goes nine as Bearcats win in extras

Arkadelphia, AR - Nikko Pablo threw 8.1 innings of scoreless relief as Northwest defeated Henderson State 10-6 in 15 innings on Friday, February 10, 2017. In a back and forth baseball game through the first nine innings, Northwest tied the game 6-6 in the top of the 8th inning. The Bearcats would need 7 innings before they could score another run. In the mean time, Nikko Pablo came into the game and worked his magic to earn his first victory of the 2017 NCAA season. Despite a tough day defensively, the Bearcats settled down with Nikko on the mound to keep Henderson State off the scoreboard. Sprinkle in Landon Figg's monster day at the plate with several supporting cast members and Northwest is 6-0 and off to its best start since 1973 according to the Northwest Missourian newspaper.

15 innings. 8.1 innings of scoreless relief BY ONE GUY. 2 Bearcat home runs. 10-6. 6-0. Whew, the B2R needs a nap after this one, but my oh my, do I have a smile on my face. Attaboy 'Cats.

Offensively, Landon Figg was Northwest's most valuable player in the game. Landon went 5 for 8 (including a double) with with 2 RBIs on the day. Garrett Fort went 3 for 6 with 2 runs scored, 1 walk, and a sacrifice in the game. James Holler went 2 for 8 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored on the day. Kevin Handzlik went 2 for 7 (including a home run) with 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and 1 walk in the game. Luke Hassman went 2 for 3 on the day. Ozzie Adams went 1 for 6 (a home run), with 2 RBIs, 1 run scored, and 1 walk in the game. Alix Herrera went 1 for 5 (a double) with 1 RBI, 1 run scored, and 3 walks in the game. Logan Rycraft earned a walk, a RBI, and a run scored on the day. In total, Northwest scored 10 runs off of 18 hits, 9 RBIs, 8 walks, 9 strike-outs, and left 14 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest committed 4 errors in the game.

Pitching, Joseph Hietpas earned the start against Henderson State. Hietpas worked 5.0 innings, allowed 4 hits, 4 runs (only 3 earned), 4 walks, 1 strike-out, 0 wild pitches, 1 balk, and did not hit a batter in the game. In the 6th inning, Jacob Wagner came into the game. Wagner worked 0.2 of an inning, allowed 2 hits, 1 run, 0 walks, 1 strike-out, 0 wild pitches, 0 balks, and he hit one batter. With 2 outs in the 6th inning, Austin Battaglia came into the game. Austin worked 1.0 inning, allowed 0 hits, 1 unearned run, and did not walk or strike-out anybody. With 2 outs in the 7th inning, Coach Loe called on Nikko Pablo to give the 'Cats a chance to win the game. Nikko was the star of the game. Nikko worked 8.1 innings, allowed 5 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks, 5 strike-outs, 2 wild pitches, 1 balk, and hit 2 batters. Two important things seemed to change when Nikko took the mound: Henderson State did not score any more runs and Northwest's defense settled down and made necessary plays. Coincidence? Not for 8.1 innings.

Next for Northwest baseball - Your Bearcats conclude their season opening southern road trip on Saturday, February 11, 2017, and play Truman State at Noon in a single 9-inning game. The Bearcats will then return to Maryville for home-cooking and rest.

Complete team victory. Northwest wins 6-3.

Fort Smith, Ark - Northwest accomplished a complete team victory when they defeated the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith 6-3 on February 7, 2017, at Crowder Field. Complimentary offense scoring multiple runs, solid defense, a starting pitcher that kept the team in the game, and a fantastic bullpen that limited the damage and ate innings were all parts that added together result in a complete team victory. Jay Hrdlicka and Luke Hassman carried the load offensively while Jacob Wagner, Nikko Pablo, and Jimmy McElwain shut down the UA-FS offense. For their efforts, Northwest's record now stands at 4-0.  According to the Northwest Missourian, the 4-0 start is the best start for Bearcat baseball since 1989.

The 1989 Bearcat baseball team had exemplary pitching, lots of speed, and a potent offense. That 1989 team pitching staff was led by Steve Nelson and his 2.60 ERA, 88 strike-outs, and 10 wins. Steve Chor never stopped running that season and stole 35 bases that season. 35 stolen bases stands as the single season record in Northwest history. Offensively, John Witkofsky hit .373, Ron Czanstkowski crushed 66 RBIs (single season record in Northwest history), 13 home runs, and 13 doubles, and Joe Iannuzzi hit 9 triples (single season record in Northwest history). The 1989 Bearcats went 42-13, 11-1 MIAA, with a loss in the championship game of the MIAA post-season tournament and NCAA regional qualifier. Speed to burn, power, pitching. I cannot imagine how many windshields had to be fixed with the 1989 Bearcat baseball team swinging the baseball bat that season.

Offensively, Jay Hrdlicka was the most valuable player in the game. Jay crushed the baseball all game long. In total, Hrdlicka went 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs, 1 run scored, including a triple and a home run. Also of note, Luke Hassman went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored in the game. James Holler went 2 for 5 with 1 run scored in the game. Ozzie Adams went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored and a sacrifice. In addition, Alix Herrera earned 1 hit and scored a run. Landon Figg went 1 for 3 with with 1 run scored and 1 walk. Logan Rycraft also earned a hit in the game. In total, Northwest scored 6 runs off of 11 hits, 5 RBIs, 1 walk, 5 strike-outs, and left 7 runners on base.

Defensively, Northwest did not commit an error in the game.

Pitching, Eddy Kraeber made his Bearcat debut and first start at the NCAA Division 2 level against Fort Hays State. He did a good job. Eddy worked 4.2 innings, allowed 6 hits, 1 earned run, 0 walks, 2 strike-outs, 0 balks, 0 wild pitches, and did not hit a batter. Cole Otto came in relief of Kraeber in the 5th inning and did a great job to get out of a jam. Cole Otto made his Bearcat debut by inducing the crucial third out to strand a runner on base. Cole ran into a little control trouble though beginning in the 6th inning. In total, Otto worked 0.1 inning, allowed 0 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 0 strike-outs, 0 balks, 0 wild pitches, and he hit a batter. Despite not retiring a batter in the 6th inning, Cole Otto picked-up the official victory in the game since he was the pitcher of record when the Bearcats took the lead. It is a feat that baseball statisticians can take pride in its unique setting. Congratulations to Cole Otto for picking-up the win in his Bearcat debut.

In the 6th, Jacob Wagner came into the game and shut the door. What another terrific performance by Wagner who is off to a fine start to his 2017 season. Jacob worked 1.0 inning, allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, 3 strike-outs, 0 wild pitches, 0 balks, and he hit a batter. In the 7th inning, Jimmy McElwain came into the game and had his best performance so far in 2017. In total, Jimmy worked 1.0 inning, allowed 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 1 strike-out, 0 wild pitches, 0 balks, and did not hit a batter. In the 8th inning, Austin Battaglia came into the game and worked 0.2 of an inning, allowed 2 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 1 strike-out, 0 wild pitches, 0 balks, and did not hit a batter. With 2 outs in the 8th inning, Nikko Pablo came into the game and closed out to secure the victory for the Bearcats. In total, Nikko worked 1.1 inning, allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, 1 strike-out, 0 wild pitches, 0 balks, and he did not hit a batter. For his effort, Nikko picked-up his second save of the season.

Zach is what all is right about the United States of America. The Bearcat baseball team was lucky to have him. The Bearcat baseball team, fans, family, and friends will be thinking of Zach and keeping him in their prayers during his deployment serving our country.

Prayer for the Safety of a Soldier

Almighty and eternal God,
those who take refuge in you will be glad
and forever will shout for joy.
Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties.
Protect them with the shield of your strength
and keep them safe from all evil and harm.
May the power of your love enable them to return home
in safety, that with all of who love them,
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen

Zach wore #7. Here is the B2R's Ode to Zach Douglas:
